What is the MOT Test?
The DVSA requires that every vehicle aged over 3 years must have an MOT on an annual basis and you can book your car, motorcycle or van MOT up to 28 days before the test becomes due. Although you don’t need to bring your old MOT certificate with you since all of the information is stored in a computer database, you should have a paper copy for your records, so if yours is lost we can replace it for you. If you aren’t sure when your car MOT is due, you can find out by visiting our MOT checker on our booking tool and entering your registration number.
The MOT ensures the roadworthiness of your vehicle, checking all of the major components such as the lights, brakes, suspension, steering, windscreen, wipers, seatbelts, seats, horn, emissions, fuel system, bodywork, mirrors, doors, tyres, registration plate and VIN. The test takes between 45 minutes and an hour and we are able to arrange for you to wait for your vehicle if that would be more convenient for you. Here at Alresford Motor Services, we are a DVSA approved MOT test centre and we are licensed to test all Class 4 vehicles which includes all makes and model of car, as well as light goods vehicles weighing up to 3000kg. Our mechanics are also qualified to carry out class 1 and 2 motorcycle MOT testing on our own premises.
What happens if my vehicle fails its MOT?
If your vehicle fails its MOT test there’s no need for concern. One of our team will contact you straight away to let you know what can be done to rectify the situation but don’t worry, no repairs will be carried out without your approval. We can carry out any work that needs to be done to get your vehicle through the test, so you won’t need to contact a dealership or arrange to take your car elsewhere. When you come to collect your vehicle, we will also let you know about any advisories. These are aspects which have passed the MOT test but which should be checked during the course of the year before your next test becomes due.

Servicing your vehicle at regular intervals as recommended by the manufacturer is essential to ensure that it runs efficiently as well as helping to guard against breakdowns. We can carry out a major, full or interim car service on all makes and models and we also conduct motorcycle and van servicing.
